A Gestural Music Puzzler for Sound and Play.
KidNano is an experimental mobile game that fuses puzzle mechanics with dynamic sound creation—inviting players to draw, remix, and explore music through gesture. Designed as a playful, interactive composition tool, KidNano turns touchscreen input into rhythm, melody, and evolving sonic textures—part game, part instrument.
The core mechanic is simple: players trace shapes and patterns across the screen to trigger beats, unlock samples, and solve rhythm-based puzzles. Each gesture affects the music—changing pitch, triggering effects, or revealing new audio layers. Levels are built around spatial logic, timing, and musical experimentation, encouraging players to find creative solutions while shaping the soundscape in real time.

Built with a custom audio engine and gesture recognition system, KidNano supports real-time manipulation of tempo, playback direction, and audio layering. As players progress, they unlock new tools—like filters, loops, and split-track controls—that deepen both the puzzle-solving and the creative expression.

The visual design is minimal and tactile, allowing focus to stay on motion and sound. Color-coded gestures, responsive animations, and reactive particles give each interaction a musical presence. The game was designed to be accessible, improvisational, and surprising—with no wrong answers, only new sounds to discover.
KidNano was featured at FILE 2017 as part of its interactive art showcase. It was developed as both a standalone game and a prototype for future sound design tools—blurring the lines between music app, educational tool, and playable artwork.
The project reflects our ongoing interest in expressive interaction—where games aren’t just systems to win, but spaces to explore, feel, and create.
